Creating a Report in Jaspersoft Studio using MDX query and a Parameter

1) Create a XMLA datasource to connect to SSAS Cubes.

2) Newly created datasource is now available under datasource window.

3) Now create a new report with MDX XMLA as datasource.

4) Change the Query Language to mdx and create a MDX Query as shown below.

5) Click Read Filelds – This will populate the Fields selected in the query into the report. Click Finish.

6) Create a Password Variable called Year as string variable and is prompted as yes.

7) Now go back to the query window and create a where statement to the query as shown. (Creating a placeholder for the parameter value)

8) The Query :

select [Measures].[Reseller Sales Amount] on columns,
[Product].[Category].MEMBERS ON ROWS
from [Step-by-Step]
where [Date].[Calendar Year].&[$P!{YEAR}]

9) Create a pie chart with following attributes.

1. Key : $F{ProductCategoryCategory}
2. Value : $F{MeasuresResellerSalesAmount}

10) Click Preview and provide the parameter value.

This will complete a chart report with a parameter value passing through MDX Query.
